April 2019

Date: Wednesday 10 April

Place: Calle Esteve 6, Mojacar Pueblo

Time: 4 pm

Cost: €1.50 per member

CALAWIM is excited to announce that it has organised a private tour of the Casa de la Canana in the Puerto, Mojacar with one of the owners of the property.

The house got its name from one of its dwellers, a person well known by the entire town, whose occupation, among other things, was selling tobacco and various goods of everyday needs. We will be guided around the house by one of the owners who will describe what it was like to live in the village in the first half of the 20th century.  We will learn about the history and culture of the town but, more importantly, the history of this beautifully and authentically restored house, decorated with furniture, paintings and everyday articles true to the early part of the 20th century.  Don’t miss this opportunity to see one of the iconic museums in the area we live in.

The easiest way to reach the Casa de la Canana is to go up in the lift and turn right as you leave the lift.  The house is clearly signposted from here and is only about 100 yards from the lift.

This event will be very popular so please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to attend as places are limited.  Email us at welcome@comeandlookatwhatimade.club using the heading “Casa de la Canana”.

The book of the month is:  The Spellman File Series by Lisa Lutz

“Meet Isabel “Izzy” Spellman, private investigator. This twenty-eight-year-old may have a chequered past littered with romantic mistakes, excessive drinking, and creative vandalism; she may be addicted to Get Smart reruns and prefer entering homes through windows rather than doors — but the upshot is she’s good at her job as a licensed private investigator with her family’s firm, Spellman Investigations. Invading people’s privacy comes naturally to Izzy. In fact, it comes naturally to all the Spellmans. If only they could leave their work at the office. To be a Spellman is to snoop on a Spellman; tail a Spellman; dig up dirt on, blackmail, and wiretap a Spellman.

Part Nancy Drew, part Dirty Harry, Izzy walks an indistinguishable line between Spellman family member and Spellman employee. Duties include: completing assignments from the bosses, aka Mom and Dad (preferably without scrutiny); appeasing her chronically perfect lawyer brother (often under duress); setting an example for her fourteen-year-old sister, Rae (who’s become addicted to “recreational surveillance”); and tracking down her uncle (who randomly disappears on benders dubbed “Lost Weekends”).

But when Izzy’s parents hire Rae to follow her (for the purpose of ascertaining the identity of Izzy’s new boyfriend), Izzy snaps and decides that the only way she will ever be normal is if she gets out of the family business. But there’s a hitch: she must take one last job before they’ll let her go — a fifteen-year-old, ice-cold missing person case. She accepts, only to experience a disappearance far closer to home, which becomes the most important case of her life.”
